SWIM TEAM
PRACTICE
VOLUNTEERS
Cranberry Lake Otters require each family to sign up for at least 3 meets (home or away) in order for the meets to run smoothly. Tracy Church has the volunteer sign-up sheet if you have not signed up yet. An email will be sent before each meet noting who has signed up for that meet.
Positions
Timer - Timers time all events. Timers record swimmer name and times for all swimmers in their assigned lanes. Each timer is given a stop watch and brief instruction from the team official.
Clerk – Clerks keep a running total of points earned by each team. Scorers from each team work together with the other team's clerk. You will receive results for each main event and give points. You use a preprinted scoring sheet that is easy to understand. You will be seated at the scoring table and will have a scoring guide for reference.
Marshal - You will be moving about the beach, primarily between the team sitting area and the starting chairs to ensure that each swimmer is ready for their event and waiting in the chairs in event order. The older swimmers will marshal themselves. You primarily need to do this for 13 and under swimmers. This is a mobile position (wear comfortable shoes)
Runner – Runners take event sheets from the timers and deliver them to the scorer's table. The runner must deliver the sheets directly to the scorer's table and not allow coaches or other interested parties to see them in transit. This is a mobile position (wear comfortable shoes). Home meets only.
Announcer - Communicates to swimmers, officials, and observers over the public address system. Welcomes the visiting team to the Lake, announces the officials for the evening, calls each event so the meet flows smoothly, and announces event winners and team scores throughout the evening. Home meets only.
Finish Judge – Keeps track of finishing swimmers for scoring purposes.
Stroke/Turn Judge - Observes the swimmers looking for disqualifying motions. These judges must learn what to look for and disqualify swimmers who commit violations. Heats are not judged. This judge stands on the dock. Each S&T Judge is required to attend a TSA one-hour class which is offered in early June each year at Horseshoe Lake.
Thank you for volunteering and helping make the Otters a success!
